What if a late-night TV show held the key to another world?

Owen and Maddy in I Saw the TV Glow

A24 is bringing us an artsy, angsty horror movie called I Saw the TV Glow, which some are calling a once-in-a-generation cinematic experience. We got a kickass trailer for the film today to tease its upcoming premiere in theaters, and if this video and its associated soundtrack are any indication, it’ll be a compelling film.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show—a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.

“What if I really was someone else, very far away on the other side of a television screen?” Owen morosely asks in the trailer. Some version of this question will undoubtedly resonate with other teenagers or those who used to be teenagers, though admittedly not all of us got sucked into a television show called The Pink Opaque.

I Saw the TV Glow comes from writer-director Jane Schoenbrun and features original music by Alex G, Caroline Polachek, Snail Mail, Yeule, and more. It stars Justice Smith (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) as Owen, Brigette Lundy-Paine (Bill & Ted Face the Music) as his classmate Maddy, Ian Foreman as Young Owen, Helena Howard as Isabel, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst(!) as Frank, and Danielle Deadwyler as Brenda.

The movie premieres in theaters on May 3, 2024. In the meantime, get your fix of angsty suburban-infused despair by checking out the trailer below. icon-paragraph-end
